Cela prend son temps, à mon grand dam, mais, en réalité, ce n’est pas très grave.
En tout cas, les prises de vues sont achevées à 99% et il ne reste plus que l’enregistrement audio des dialogues… puis le montage, le mixage, la correction colorimétrique, la stylisation,, etc.

For the time being, I have the pleasure to share, in text and stills, the sequences of the short movie. As always, I would be delighted to gather your comments, impressions, advices…

(Nota : les images sont intégrées en l’état, sans colorimétrie pour l’instant ; elles sont donc un peu pâlottes…)

Sequence n°1 : intro

Dans cette séquence d’ouverture, on procède par opposition entre ce qui se dit et ce qui se voit.

• Dans le dialogue (audio) entre une fillette et son père, c’est l’exposition de l’évènement dramatique (et comique).
• L’action (en images) se déroule déjà plus tard, lorsque la dent de lait est tombée et qu’on la prépare pour le passage nocturne de la “petite souris” (comme on dit en France et, sans doute, dans beaucoup d’endroits au monde).

Dialogue en voix ” off ” :

• GIRL : Daddy !
• DAD : What ?
• GIRL : I've got a tooth, which moves !
• DAD : What ? Oh, that's… Hm… Nothing. Well, that's Life !
• GIRL : But it's really moving !
• DAD : Yeah… And it will even fall.
• GIRL : What ?!?
• DAD : Sure, but it'll grow back again
• GIRL : Whaaaaat ?!?

Séquence 2

Dialog :

• GIRL : Daddy ! Do you want to listen to my tooth ?

[Squeaks]

• DAD : Wow ! It sound like it's crying, or something…
• GIRL : But, what will happen to it ?
• PAPA : Euh… La p’tite souris va venir la prendre… Elle va te laisser un p’tit cadeau en échange…
• GIRL : Yes, but what's next ?
• DAD : Hmm ; it's like trees : leaves fall down in autumn and grow back in spring.
• GIRL : Sure, but what about the tooth itself ? Will it… disappear ?
• DAD : Not really, hum… It will keep existing… somewhere.
• GIRL : And how could we help the tooth to fall ? You know, in order to make room for the new one !
• PAPA : Et bien, on peut, par exemple, prendre une p’tit bout de ficelle, faire un p’tit nœud sur la dent, attacher l’autre bout a la poignée de la porte et… TAC !
• GIRL : Noooo !
• DAD : No, you're right - we won't do that…

Sequence n°3

In this last sequence, we'll tend to some kind of poetic mood, or at least a more reflective one…
C’est la séquence qui permet, finalement, d’approfondir et d’ouvrir les perspectives du film. Elle offre aussi un regard (et même un souvenir, pour le spectateur) sur les évènements de l’enfance comme autant de petites joies.

Dialog :

• FILLETTE : Papa, r’garde !
• DAD : Hey! Dit it hurt ?
• GIRL : Not too much. And now, what's supposed to happen ?
• PAPA : D’abord, l’échange avec la p’tite souris. Ensuite, il va te rester un grand trou…
• GIRL : And ?
• DAD : And maybe even multiple voids actually, depending on other teeth.
• GIRL : And that's a problem ?
• PAPA : Oui et non. Tu auras peut-être une autre façon de parler, parce que tu n’es pas habituée, mais… c’est aussi un nouveau départ, une sorte d’étape.

[Silence]

• DAD : It will remain like this for a time, and then, suddenly, a white edge will appear. Not much, at first, but it'll be the new tooth, which will fill the gap. It'll be strong, big and beautiful. But you'll have to take good care of it, because this one will be for your whole life !
• GIRL : And that's ok ?
• PAPA : Ah oui ! c’est une sorte de petit miracle.

Qu’en pensez-vous ?

L’idée de ce projet est d’utiliser un moment de la vie que nous avons toutes et tous connu, pour exprimer le rapport aux évènements de la vie, aux premières fois, au deuil et aux cycles, mais tout cela d’une manière plutôt légère et douce…
My bet here is that those little grains, sowed through the dialogs, and the resonance of it all in the audience's inner life, will do the trick and make it ring.
